Chairmans Report
Once again this year the Santa’s sleigh made its rounds of the village. And with the very kind support of local volunteers it was again made possible. It is a constant struggle to find collectors to come out at night in the rain and cold. However once people have had the experience of the camaraderie, they often try to come out the next year as they have so much fun, It would be really nice to see more of the parents of the children to whom the fundraising goes to help. But a thank you goes out to all of those who helped us raise nearly £3000. We decided this year to place the Sleigh in the village for the three Saturdays leading up to Christmas purely to add festive cheer, we had not intended to collect on all Saturdays however people again were very generous. The group have chosen to make donations to three local charities this year, so that some of the income is returned to our community.
I would make a serious plea to everyone who reads this, to try to help us find somewhere to store the sleigh until next year, as the wear and tear of being stored outside could lead to the early demise of another community event. The sleigh will fit in a larger domestic sized garage, it is 19’6” long 6’1” wide and 5’8” tall when the reindeer are in livery (removed). An ideal place would be in the back of a secure barn. We can cover it up against dirt and dust but the damp and weather cause major damage. Please help us preserve this Icon of Witterings Christmas.
